Achievement

We believe in using a range of classroom assessment strategies as our first indicators of student progress. We also use summative assessment information to look at multi-year progress of our students in reading, writing, math, and science, including assessments chosen by the school (Instructional Reading Inventory, Developmental Reading Assessment, Curriculum Associates Math Grade Placement Test, Spelling Inventories, standardized academic "screeners", etc.) and the Hawaii State Assessment (HSA, as used for determining school status under No Child Left Behind).

We work to celebrate the learning successes of all of our students, and so do not have any “honor roll” or separate “gifted” programs. We encourage student self-assessment and involvement in individual goal-setting, including student-led conferences with parents/teachers, creation of learning portfolios, and in multi-disciplinary projects.
